Oktoberfest 2016 | Beloved Beethoven | Abilene Philharmonic

Where: Abilene Civic Center When: Oktoberfest 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Concert 7:30 p.m.

Oktoberfest Beer and Brats:

It’s FREE — no tickets necessary — food and drink for purchase. This is the day the Mayor of Munich opens Oktoberfest in Germany and the Abilene Philharmonic will give Abilenians a taste of the festivities right here. From 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. food trucks with German fare will be parked outside the Abilene Civic Center. Tables will be available inside, along with craft beers to sample. There will be musical entertainment and kids activities.

Concert — Beloved Beethoven:

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Civic Center’s auditorium the orchestra performs three of Beethoven’s masterworks – Overture to the Ruins of Athens, Beethoven Symphony No. 7 and Piano Concerto No. 3 featuring the “incontestable brilliance” (American Record Guide) of guest pianist Adam Wodnicki. Concert Conversations, where Music Director David Itkin shares the inside story on the music, takes place backstage at 6:45 p.m. Ticket for the concert are $18-$42, with discounts for students of all ages, active military and groups.
